Week 46

Hey Y'all,

The past few weeks have truly been eventful for the Alabama Birmingham Mission.   With Hurricane season in full force, we are reluctant to be safe up here in Huntsville.  While Irma was wreaking havoc on Florida a few weeks ago, we received news from the mission office that all of us missionaries were ordered to return to our homes and not leave until the entirety of the storm passes.  While the effects of the storm were nothing comparable to the damage elsewhere, we still experienced heavy rainfall along with heavy winds.  You could barely see 100 feet in front of you because of how fast the rain was being blown throughout.  Needless to say, we are safe and no damage was incurred throughout Alabama.

Last week, it was that time again to receive transfer news.   To our dismay, Elder Peterson and I get to continue serving in Monte Sano together for another 6 weeks.  This means that by the end of this current transfer, I would have spent 6 months of my mission serving in Monte Sano.  I love working here and will be saddened to leave this place when the time comes.

The work up here has seen a lot of progression over just the past few weeks.  From our weekly planning session, we have made plans to have 5 people on Baptismal Date by the end of this week.  We are confident that we can accomplish our plans and help each of these wonderful people make covenants with their Heavenly Father.  The greatest thing about this area, is that we see a wide diversity among the people.  Huntsville, is a very large research city that is home to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, NASA Headquarters, and The Redstone Arsenal which is a 5000 acre facility dedicated to military research and fabrication for weapons and aircraft.  With all of these facilities here, we see people from all corners of the world every week, including many people from Brazil, Russia, and even Japan.

With that said, I hope you are all looking forward to and preparing for General Conference this weekend.  It is truly a blessing to be able to gather together as Saints to hear the words from our beloved Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, along with his counselors and The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  As we draw closer to conference, there is a great Mormon Message that I would encourage each of you to watch.  This message has really helped me to prepare for conference and I know it can do the same for each of you as well: https://youtu.be/5OX6GUId2es

I hope each of you has a blessed week!

Elder Foster

Steadfast in Christ!
